Focusing on the Real Threats: Terrorism, Antisemitism and Community Safety
In the aftermath of the Bondi terror attack, Australians quite rightly expect political leaders to respond with clarity, seriousness and a focus on genuine threats to public safety.
Unfortunately, that hasn't happened. Instead of focusing on terrorism and antisemitism, Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese and NSW State Premier, Chris Minns have decided to try to punish law-abiding & responsible firearm owners, rather than addressing the real and growing dangers of terrorism, antisemitism and violent extremism.
The video above details what's happened since the attack, how politicians have reacted, and how responsible firearm owners and the general public can help to stop these reactive gun law debates, which are being used as a political distraction from becoming law.
Responsible Firearm Owners Are Not the Problem
Australia already has some of the strictest firearms regulations in the world. Licensed firearm owners are subject to rigorous background checks, ongoing compliance requirements, safe storage inspections and permit-based acquisition processes. These systems exist precisely to ensure firearms remain in responsible hands.
Licensed shooters are overwhelmingly compliant and responsible. The data consistently shows that the vast majority of firearm-related crime involves illegal firearms used by criminals, not licensed owners who follow the law. Targeting this community does nothing to prevent terrorism or hate-motivated violence.
Terrorism and Antisemitism Demand Serious Attention
The Bondi attack has raised urgent questions about how Australia identifies, monitors and responds to radicalisation and extremist threats. Antisemitism and ideologically motivated violence are not abstract concepts — they are real, present dangers affecting Australian communities today.
Shifting focus away from these issues and towards symbolic firearms crackdowns risks leaving the root causes of terrorism unaddressed. Effective public safety policy must confront evidence, not emotion.
Evidence-Based Policy, Not Political Point-Scoring
Australians deserve leadership that prioritises outcomes over optics. Knee-jerk policy responses may generate headlines, but they rarely deliver meaningful improvements to safety.
A balanced approach means:
- Targeting illegal firearms and organised crime
- Strengthening counter-terrorism and intelligence capabilities
- Addressing antisemitism and extremist ideology directly
- Respecting the rights of law-abiding citizens who already comply with strict regulations
This is not a radical position — it is a practical, evidence-based one.
