South Australian Election Results

The South Australian state election late last month has given the major parties a real shock, with the openly pro-gun One Nation Party picking up four lower house seats and three Upper house seats.

Crucially, One Nation SA Party Leader Cory Bernardi - who was elected to the Upper House - is very openly a shooter himself.

Our state president, Peter Heggie ran (in a personal capacity) as the One Nation candidate for Reynell and received 27.7% of the primary vote in a ludicrously safe Labor seat, putting him squarely in second place and miles ahead of the remaining candidates.

Another Shooters Union member and firearms business owner, Tim March, placed third as the One Nation candidate in the electorate of Morphett with 15.2% of the primary vote - again in a very safe Labor seat.

While the ALP Government was re-elected (as expected, Premier Peter Malinauskas has committed to leaving the gun laws alone, and the strong One Nation results at the ballot box will no doubt encourage the ALP to honour that commitment - not to mention putting political parties around the country on notice that shooters and other law-abiding Australians have had enough of being treated as criminals or untrustworthy, and are now voting accordingly.

There's definitely some food for thought there with the Farrer by-election coming up on May 3, and the Victorian State Election November28.
